The Brothers Grimm were German folklorists who set out to preserve early western European legends for future generations to enjoy. I created this booklet for my daughter and son using only stories about sisters and brothers. To honor the Brothers Grimm’s passion for Germany, I designed the booklet using only German elements. The colors in the cover are from the German flag and the font is Futura, designed by Paul Renner in 1927. The use of silhouettes and shadow puppets were to honor the earliest-surviving animated feature film by Lotte Reiniger, The Adventures of Prince Achmed. The feature film was created by photographing silhouettes frame by frame. Finally, all the stories are from the original text of the Brothers Grimm.
