TED Intro Animation

A new beginning for TED.
Our friends at Colours and Shapes invited us to partner up on creating a new intro animation for TED, to brand the start of every video on TED's website. With just five seconds to work with, we developed several different concepts based on ideas spreading and being shared, landing on a style that fit within TED's minimal branding.

DESIGN

APPROACH 1: The first approach focuses on particles and light waves interacting in an open space-like environment. It's a statement about how ideas spread, as well as where TED is today and in the future: a powerful catalyst in an interconnected network of spreading global ideas.

Approach 1 - storyboards and styleframe by Haewon Shin

APPROACH 2: In our second concept, information is given a more fluid, organic representation that fills and reveals TED logo, as a way of representing TED as the container of all this data & knowledge shared with the rest of the world.

Approach 2 - storyboards and styleframe by Nuria Boj

FINAL DESIGN: The TED logo here is revealed to be comprised of a structure of ideas. The logo itself is the mechanism/platform that shares and spreads these ideas with the world.

Approach 3 - storyboards and styleframes by Nuria Boj

ANIMATION

BEHIND THE SCENES:  The base particle spread animation was all done in Cinema 4D. Different passes were composited with the vector TED logo and other effects in After Effects to produce the final result.
