3D Scan to Wood Sculpture
During my internship at RDM Makerspace in Rotterdam (NL) we produced a sliced wood sculpture of the RDM Campus founder to celebrate him
The Process
We have scanned Bert with a Kinect camera and we get the 3D model of the full body. I divide the body with Blender 3D to get only half body. The model was also optimized for 3D printing.
The 3D model of the half body was then sliced in layers with Fusion 360 software and exported each layer as DXF files.
The exported DXF files was then printed with a laser curret machine, cutting several wood planks as the number of 3D layers exported, in order to get a final real wood sculpture sticking all the cutted wood layes together.
Finally the sculpure was painted and given to Bert, in order to heve his keepsake inside RDM Campus.
