2003XP Transitional Animations in Oculus VR - Unity

The objective of this project was to create a spacial transition using Unity animations and animators coupled with script and trigger regions to create experienced environments where scene change around the user.

I choose to implement this by using an iconic piece of software as reference. I decided to draw back to the year 2003 when I was a teenager with my first computer and how mystical this first computer was given that I could change so many things about it. For me entering this computer was the same as being transported.

I used a grid of pixels and animated them in Unity and then set them to fire when the user’s collider hit a small trigger zone. Upon hitting the trigger zone a smaller scene pops out and expands while the background of the computer enlarges and moves towards the back firing another animation of fires. At this point the room the user is in shrinks below them creating a slight of hand as if they have been sucked into a new world one where the hills of Sonoma that make up the iconic XP background are actually on fire.
The final concept sketch of the 6 different ideas for spacial transitions.
