Modular Electric Vehicle
STEGOSAURUS
Product design/ Teamwork of six
Electric vehicles (EVs) are definitely the future of automobiles. Still, at the same time, several concerns have been holding back more people from replacing and driving the new types of vehicles.
- Vehicle & battery maintenance
- Battery charging and capacity
- Diversity of vehicle model
New Mode
Since an EV does not have fuel engines, its internal mechanical structure is much simpler than that of fuel vehicles, which is an advantage that makes modular vehicle design possible. Generally, the user will have continuous overhead on battery maintenance and replacement for EV while the body stays in good condition for a long time. Therefore, we considered whether the body and battery (chassis) of an EV could be separated into two parts, both of which can be assembled to meet different needs.
The modular design leads to a more efficient vehicle usage scenario: the customer spends less money to buy the car body and gets access to the battery and chassis by leasing. The car company is responsible for maintaining the battery and other essential parts of the car, and the customer allows to replace the chassis with a new one at any time.

Design Briefing
Design goal
Green travel, Economic travel, Efficient travel
Target group & Service environment
People who live in cities and daily travel alone or in pairs.
Function orientation
The body and chassis are divided into two parts, which can be customized and assembled according to actual needs.
Technical orientation
Electric vehicle technology and develop a new connection way between body and chassis.
Modular Car Body
We applied the modular design concept also to the body design, allowing the EV to have the possibility of temporary expansion space.
Scenario
If a customer uses a small standard car cabin daily and needs the car to carry more people on a weekend trip, he could rent an extension cabin and assemble it into the original one. The flexibility of the vehicle type will effectively reduce carbon emissions and attract more people to use EVs.
