Our cherished client Douglas Sweets started a creative project to decorate their new cookie packs. Being a women-owned company, they envisioned collaborating with various female artists and women-owned design agencies to create artwork for their new gift boxes. Granting us complete creative freedom, the only requirement was to produce captivating and intriguing designs!

For this exciting and fun project, we got inspired by Leyma’s hometown: Donostia-San Sebastián. We created a colorful and dynamic artwork made of several iconic symbols of the city and the Basque culture. Very happy with the result, we also created a little postcard so that Douglas Sweets’ customers can hang the artwork on their walls.

But that was not enough! We integrated a QR code into the postcard, directing customers to a website where we unveil an interactive game. Here, they can delve into the inspiration behind the artwork and embark on a quest to spot all the unique icons hidden within!

THE ARTWORK

THE ICONS

1. LA CONCHA
La Concha Bay is formed by two of the three beaches of Donostia (La Concha -named 2018's Europe's best beach- and Ondarreta). The bay was named Concha ("shell") because of its shape.

2. IGELDO TOWER
Igeldo is the mountain from which you will find one of the most beautiful views of the city. There is an old but fun amusement park and the emblematic tower.

3. PINTXO POTE
Every Thursday (and/or Friday, depending on the neighbourhood) all the city gathers together to enjoy the deal of 1 pintxo (small portion of food made art) and 1 pote (drink) for only 2-2'50€.

4. PEINE DEL VIENTO
El Peine del Viento (The Comb of the Wind) is a collection of three sculptures made by Eduardo Chillida. They are located on the seaside of the city where the statues can "brush" the majestic waves.

5. MENDIZALE
Mendizale means "mountain enthusiast" in Basque. Basque mountains are gorgeous and we are educated to love them. The same way some kids play soccer at school, we have the chance to be part of the Mendizale team!

6. TXAPELA
The txapela is the traditional Basque hat. It's so iconic that "txapeldun" means a person who has a txapela, but also champion; so we even use this hat as a trophy for the winners!

7. TAMBORRADA
The tamborrada is a drum festival celebrated the day of San Sebastian (20 of January). It was one of the multiple reasons why Donostia was European Capital of Culture in 2016. I can't explain this amazing event shortly, but you can learn more about it here. It's something you have to experience!

8. KURSAAL LIGHTS
These original lights have become one of the city's symbols, along with the Kursaal, one of the most important cultural spaces of Donostia. A must see.

9. ESKU PILOTA
Esku pilota (meaning hand ball) is a Basque sport played with a hard ball using one's hand against a wall (named fronton). There are different modalities of pilota, played with a wooden racket or a basket. It's so much fun, I invite you to try it!

10. SEA & SURF
Like in many coastal cities, Donostia's Zurriola beach is very often full of surfers. There are plenty surfer towns in the Basque Country, being Mundaka's wave one of the best.
