Defeat your Distractions
The Ombra Device Dock is a project that originated from inspiration alone. By taking the experiences embedded in what inspired me, I was able to discover a unique project that captures the spirit of its origins. The result is a device that eclipses your phone for a productive and distraction free environment.
Inspiration
The three reference image categories shown served as a genesis point for this project. With these three related groups, I was able to pull a number of key words and phrases that contributed to a potential direction for the project.
"How can we reimagine the meditative and fantastic environment experienced at night
through the lens of an eclipse event? "
Ideation & Concept
These inspiration points sparked a broad range of ideas from shoes, safety gear, and furniture. I took the base values of three of the ideas and moved to design a product that creates a highly focused environment, with an aim to control one of the greatest distractions, our mobile devices.
Form Development
Eclipses as well as the mystical expression of light, helped inspire my form development. I also considering the integration of a phone and how the form might interact with it to discourage its use, while blending into the environment.
Prototypes
Taking my ideas through different prototypes helped to polish up the inspired form, the integration of the phone, and overall product experience and usability.
