[ENG][Allegory of Anarchy]
Illustrated according to Cesare Ripa's manual of iconology with some artistic freedoms.
Dismal result of civil war, leave
rampant of the people, when the power
legitimate and the laws without activity and without force,
they are despised by the people themselves. The iconologists have spoken of this gruesome crisis, but Anarchy can be represented
under the figure of a woman, whose attitude
announces the fury; covered the eyes with a
bandage, hair in disarray, clothes torn,
trampling on the law book, held
on a bundle of rods, symbol of the
Union. In one hand Anarchy holds a
dagger and in the other a burning torch, allusion
to the discord that it engenders and to the crimes
that it produces. A broken scepter and yoke end
to characterize Anarchy. The bottom
of the table may represent a combat between
the citizens, whose weapons of different
classes, indicate popular insurrections; Y
further afire a city on fire.

Ilustrado según el manual de iconología de Cesare Ripa con algunas libertades artísticas.
Resultado funesto de la guerra civil, licencia
desenfrenada del pueblo, cuando el poder
legítimo y las leyes sin actividad y sin vigor,
son por el mismo pueblo despreciadas. Los
iconologistas  han hablado de esta espantosa
crisis, pero puede representarse la Anarquía 
bajo la figura de una mujer, cuya actitud
anuncia el furor; cubiertos los ojos con una
venda, el cabello en desorden, los vestidos desgarrados,
pisoteando el libro de la ley, sostenido
sobre un haz de varas, símbolo de la
unión. En una mano tiene la Anarquía un
puñal y en la otra una tea encendida, alusión
á la discordia que engendra y á los crímenes
que produce. Un cetro y un yugo rotos acaban
de caracterizar la Anarquía. El fondo
del cuadro podrá representar un combate entre
los ciudadanos, cuyas armas de diferentes
clases, indican las insurrecciones populares; y
mas lejos una ciudad incendiada.
