THE GREAT INDIAN KITCHEN
The great Indian kitchen - is a tight slap to all men who eat Dosa with three varieties of chutney and not aware of their kitchen’s wall colour. To all the women who believe it's ethical to put emotional burdens on other women to keep the wholesomeness of a family.
.
This movie is an exact mirror image of typical Indian households, rooted in patriarchy and gender disparity. Every corner of this movie unapologetically unfolds the shades of sexism that have concealed women behind kitchen doors.
 .
Blending womanhood with Kitchen and Bedroom is never a new thing in India. It's happening forever. Despite borders and languages, You can find witnesses in every home. 'The one with Vagina has to Cook, Clean, Wash, Work, Mate, NOT DREAM and REPEAT whereas the one with Penis can enjoy the freedom of having Penis'. This is what society preaches all these years. Isn't it?
.
Every brick of this society embedded with different kinds of prejudice against women. No, there is no denial in it. Thanks to 'The Great Indian Kitchen' for taking a toll on locking them in Kitchen and glorifying it with hashtags like #momskitchen, #cookwithlove, #herkitchen, & #shecooks.
.
Many scenes got me in tears but this one created a war in me. Where Heroine's Mom advised her saying, 'Things like these are common. You should be happy that you've got a heritage family'. This one scene itself is enough to explain the whole concept of Indian marriages. Happiness is not a heritage family. It's about not being martial raped, body shamed, free and independent.
When will the Indians understand?
.
Dear Women, Do not believe when someone says your dream lies between Turmeric powder and Coconut chutney. Do not agree when deep-seated patriarchal society advises you to stay in a toxic circle to protect your marriage. It's high time you should stop making perfect round Roties for men who don't even differentiate Rasam & Sambar powder.
Dear Men, I hope you don't leave garbage on the dining table anymore. And not mock your Mother or Sister or Wife for adding an extra pinch of salt in Rajma-chawal!
