The Turkey Trot is a series of races held on Thanksgiving Day in Deming, NM to raise funds to honor a local charity. This year’s beneficiary is the Ryan Hyatt Memorail Scholarship. The event organizers approached me to design a t-shirt that reflects the playful nature of the event. I developed some hand-lettering to sit in the silhouette of a running turkey (a pun on the event name, as well as a road runner, the New Mexico state bird, which is quite prolific in the Deming area). A two lane street is worked into the text to further reinforce the idea of roads and running. We are all very happy and excited about this shirt graphic, which could easily be adapted in future years to act as an ongoing logo for the event.
