exhibition title and preface
The theme of this art exhibition arecolors, geometry, cities and interactions. The artists experiment colors and forms to express their exploration and reflection of the city and life. The two German artists we invited this time, one is skilled in city lines and the otheris good at architecture, both of whom bring marvelous and amazing experience ofcolors and forms in art to the audience. Each Artwork is a silent symphony solidified on a two-dimensionalcanvas. It is in this vivid and interesting way that they interact with theaudience.
Marc Schmitz is a conceptualmulti-disciplinary artist based in Berlin and Ulaanbaatar. He explores the foundations of the different media that he is in use with, by challenging theirlimits. His works convey sensuality, inviting the viewer to enter into amutually constructive dialogue, when addressing the limitless space with all ofthe viewer‘s basic senses. His works have been exhibited internationally,represented in private and public collections and have been remarked withseveral international awards.
Jutta Bobbe is a contemporary Germanartist lives and works in Shanghai and Berlin. She is well known for hervibrant dynamic abstract oil paintings. In 2000 she graduated from the University of Applied Art and Science in Hamburg. Her imagery reflects heraffinity for the philosophy and surrealism. They feature the moments ofsimultaneity, unexpected juxtapositions of spatial fragments, as if the distance between places and differences cultures had condensed into a single, powerful space. She has achieved incombining fundamentally different spatial pictorial corporealities into a bodyof work that remains unmistakably her own. Her work has been exhibited in manyimportant Chinese major museums such as Today Art Museum, Beijing; Mingyuan Art Museum, Shanghai; MoCA, Muvseum of Contemporary Art, Shanghai; Shanghai Himalayas Art Museum.
ART23 is proud to present Marc Schmitz and Jutta Bobbe duo painting exhibition in Guangzhou. We will continually serve as a laboratory for artists to explore the dialogue betweentheir works, time and space. We value the interaction between our artists andthe public, and champion the bold exploration and experimentation with in the thriving cultural industry in China and beyond.

尤塔·波波，德国当代艺术家，现居上海和柏林。她以充满活力的抽象油画而闻名。2000年毕业于汉堡应用艺术与科学大学。她的作品反映了她对哲学和超现实主义的探索。作品的特点是把同时共生的时刻，空间碎片意外地并置在一起, 使不同地域与文化间的距离凝聚成一个单一而强大的空间。她成功地将完全不同的绘画空间实体组合成了一个整体，并在这个整体中显而易见地保持着自我。她的作品曾在许多重要的中国主要博物馆展出，例如北京今日美术馆、上海明圆艺术中心、上海当代艺术馆及上海喜玛拉雅美术馆。
ART23很荣幸能在广州举办 Marc Schmitz 和 Jutta Bobbe双人绘画展。我们将继续充当艺术家探索他们的作品，时间和空间之间对话的实验室。我们重视艺术家与公众之间的互动，并在中国及其他地区蓬勃发展的文化产业中倡导大胆的探索和试验。

JUTTA BOBBE is a contemporary German artist lives and works in Shanghai and Berlin. She is well known for her vibrant dynamic abstract oil paintings. In 2000 she graduated from the University of Applied Art and Science in Hamburg. In 2008, she designed her studio in Beijing, where she lived and worked before moving to Shanghai in 2017. Her imagery reflects her affinity for the philosophy and surrealism. They feature the moments of simultaneity, unexpected juxtapositions of spatial fragments, as if the distance between places and differences cultures had condensed into a single, powerful space. She has achieved in combining fundamentally different spatial pictorial corporealities into a body of work that remains unmistakably her own. She has exhibited internationally including selected solo exhibitions at Xinqiao Art Museum in Shanghai (2018); Himalayas Art Museum Zendai MoMA, Shanghai (2015); Cipa Gallery, Beijing (2016); Yard Gallery, Shanghai (2016 and 2006); Hong Kong Contemporary Art Museum, Guangzhou (2015) and selected important group shows at Mingyuan Art Museum, Shanghai (2014, ANOTHER UTOPIA--SHANGHAI ABSTRACT ART - NOMAD); Shanghai Himalayas Art Museum (2013, INSIGHTFUL CHARISMA); Today Art Museum, Beijing (2009, ENLIVEN-IN BETWEEN REALITIES AND FICTION, Animamix Biennial); MoCA, Museum of Contemporary Art, Shanghai (2008, MERGING EMERGING-ART, UTOPIA AND VIRTUAL REALITY), K4 Gallery, Munich (2010); and at Ute Parduhn Gallery in Dusseldorf (2006). Her works are hold in private collections all over the world like: USA, UK, Germany, Swiss and China.

Marc Schmitz is a conceptual multi-disciplinary artist based in Berlin and Ulaanbaatar. He explores the foundations of the different media that he is in use with, by challenging their limits. His works convey sensuality and thought, inviting the viewer to enter into a mutually constructive dialogue, while addressing the limitless space with all of the viewer’s basic senses. He participated in international Biennials such as Busan Biennale 2004, Beijing Biennial 2005, Venice Biennale 2017, T-Rio Bienal, Brasil 2018, Marrakesh Biennale 2016 and Bangkok Art Biennial 2019 beside others. His works have been exhibited internationally in Museums in Pingnan in Fujian China (solo 2018), or Zendai MoMA 2009, Shanghai and at the Concert Hall in Perth Western Australia (solo 2012) are represented in private and public collections (National Art Gallery Beijing, Swatch Collection Shanghai a.o.) and have been remarked with several international awards. (Award of Cairo Biennale, Busan Biennale, world Expo 2000 etc). He was residence artist in Korea, at Peace Art Hotel in Shanghai or the Goethe Institute Hong Kong, and Nakanojo, Japan. www.marcschmitz.net
