The Corvette was the first passenger car to receive transverse rear monoleafeathers made of filament and compression molding in 1981.

Jeremy George Lake Charles The Corvette was also equipped with a rear-wheel drive system, the second generation of which was equipped with transverse and reverse springs, produced by filament development and compression and molded parts until 1981.
The Sledgehammer became the first Corvette with the Callaway Aerobody package, giving it a reshaped body that was essential for record speeds. The Corvette Forum wrote that 527 replicas of the Corvette convertible were built, overtaking the 1995 Indianapolis 500.

Jeremy George Lake Charles This was the third time a Corvette had been selected, and Chevrolet decided to honor the event by building a limited number of pace car replicas for the public. Later that year, they were shown at the New York International Auto Show along with the Corvette C6 and Z06.
The success of the early Corvette led GM to install composite springs in minivans in 1985, but these were eliminated by the mid-engine design of the C8. The early success of the Chevrolet C6 and Z06 with the Callaway Aerobody package led GM to install a compound spring in a minivan in 1984 and a Corvette C7 and C9 again in 1986.

The C4 and C5 models were built in 1987 and 1988, while the C8 and Mid-Engine models were discontinued in 1990 and 1991, respectively, for the Corvette Z6, Z8, C10 and Z11.

Jeremy George Lake Charles The Corvette became more popular than ever, even though performance dropped sharply in the 1970s, largely due to the introduction of the mid-engine Corvette Z6 and Z8 and partly due to its performance.
