Bachelor degree thesis: Foodscapes in Milan - An exhibition to have a an itinerary throught ethnic food - scapes in Milan
Year: 2010
Role: Concept, planning, illustration, graphic renderings

"Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life" is the theme of the 2015 Expo based in the city of Milan.
The design proposal is to arrange a temporary set-up in the pavilion at the Milanese fair in Rho and to be able to tell through a sensory path, the curiosity of Milan's ethnic dining alongside the gastronomic traditions and not just the countries of origin, of the exhibition shows a more global perception of ethnic restaurants and food cultures crossing daily.
Starting from the Milanese reality, the camp has been restricted to ethnic groups that mostly flourish in the city's restaurants, such as: Japanese, Chinese, North African and Indian restaurants.
The circular construction of the Milan map and the subdivision in neighborhoods led to the paralleling of the meneghina ethnic food restoration with the original matrix by bringing together the layout of the exhibition in a common space, similar to a real square, where to find space to confront, learning and taking part in the life of that is today a multi-ethnic metropolis.
The circularity of the set-up turns after a journey of colors, sounds and curiosities, in a wide space, shadowed and free from constraints. Metaphorically combines all the individual differences into a single large mosaic of colors.
PLAN OF EXHIBITION
JAPANESE RESTAURANT SERVICE | Occidental dining restaurant  pavilion

The range of Japanese restaurants is varied: luxurious restaurants, sushi bars, or simply local restaurants offering fixed menus. Modern, high-tech, with bright colors that overrun the essence of wood and mirror in metals. The use of iron, dark stones and soft lights that enchant and make the dark and intimate atmosphere.
The bamboo is ubiquitous, recalls the exotic and enlivens the environment. The show is enhanced by the sushi-man's skill, or presumed such that in front of a hungry clientele show their ability to present delicious delicacies.

Between the lightness of the washi paper and the pleasant feeling of the tatami under the bare feet, there is a journey between the curiosity and the secrets of traditional Japanese cuisine.
NORTH AFRICA RESTAURANT SERVICE Occidental dining restaurant  pavilion

In North African dining in Milan we find a sort of fear in expressing their traditions. Gastronomy is the mirror of a cultural community, and here too the distrust of the North Africans is poured out. Bare spaces, cool ceremonies and the total absence of furnishings are the main features of this dining in Milan. Here, like all over the beautiful country, the 'kebabberies', which are scarcely taken away, have spread mainly, but by the way kebabs have managed to break the wall of mistrust with the Italians.

A magical atmosphere reigns in the environment. Exquisite fabrics and rugs of geometric fantasy color space. A village of Berber curtains, among the desert dunes, where you will be enchanted by the culinary history rich in contamination of the peoples of the North Sahara.
CHINESE RESTAURANT SERVICE Occidental dining restaurant  pavilion

Masters of catering and business, the Chinese have now become the monopoly of all ethnic dining in Milan.
In those that are still being defined as Chinese restaurants, mostly Cantonese cuisine or new culinary experiments derived from fusion contamination are mostly proposed.
Sars, bird flu have led customers to turn their attention to other gourmet discoveries and have led the managers to devise new strategies to attract customers.
Restaurants in the city have seen changing their image and becoming fashionable venues, or have had to raise prices while maintaining the appearance of the restaurant as closely as possible to the tradition and improving the quality of the proposal. Red continues to be predominant in the halls, reflected in the floor ceramics
.

The symbol of Yin and Yang is reflected in every element of the outfit: the contrast between two opposing poles creates the harmony of the set. Between sandblasted glasses and screens that outline the exhibition path.
INDIAN RESTORATION SERVICE Occidental dining restaurant  pavilion

Strolling through the city streets is easy to recognize Indian restaurants.
Intense, almost acrid scents dissolve in the air. Spicy flavors reverberate even outside the premises. Entering into the restaurant the hospitality of the managers, mostly Indians, welcomes the customer a bit shaken, while the vivid colors of the walls illuminate the environment. Rangoli, fabrics and warm wooden doors lead to salt, where diners consume the meal. Maintained as faithfully as possible to the tradition, Indian dining is fascinating with its many fragrances and colorful make-ups.

A split space, the contrast between North and South. Respect for the earth, food as a means of subsistence. Light showers floating in the air. A spicy bubbling forest that reaches the pavilion and recalls the charm of India.
