Book cover illustration
For the third assignment for Illustration class, we were making a book cover for a book that already exists. We could choose from 3 different books. I chose for the book ''Fokking Druk'' this book is about how busy we are in this day and age, that we easily burnt out.
I chose for this book since it was the most interesting to me and because I had the most ideas for this book.

^^ I had some trouble with the title font, sadly i deleted the layer where I made an attempt drawing the letters myself. My father helped me out looking for a font that would fit the book, looking at fonts that looked like it was written quickly though I didn't think it would've fit with the theme of being overwhelmingly busy. Eventually after describing what I was looking for, that being a font that looked like someone quickly scratched out the words. We came across the font you see. I also tried using different colors for every letter to let it look even more overwhelming, though it was a bit to much so, I went with one solid color of fluorescent pink which was already in the very busy color palette. Didn't want more colors since there are so much of it already. ^^

^^ At this point i already knew what colors I wanted to use though I didn't know how to lay it out. I tried making the sand black at first so it would contrast with the ''sky'' though it just didn't look right for me. I swapped the contrast around making the sand neon and the ''sky'' dark with a few dark tones of teal and purple. I did that so it wouldn't be a solid off black space, making the colors dark and muted wouldn't make them distracting. ^^
Sketching and experimenting
^^ I went with the sand themed cover after some rethinking during the May holidays. ^^
^^ At this point I had two favorite themes in my thumbnails, the ones with sand in them or the ones with some kind of explosion. I wanted to make two final sketches of both themes. I did have some trouble getting the right pose for the cover for the exploding theme. ^^

^^ These were some thumbnail sketches after the research i did. I drew what I would feel if I was overwhelmed and stressed. Time flies by, my head feels like exploding, people watching me even if they weren't and so on. I knew already that i wanted a lot of colors with black to contrast it to make it look even more overwhelming. ^^
^^ Some research of what i had in mind and the book i chose. I wrote down what I felt when being overwhelmingly stressed and working under pressure. Also wrote down what kind of visuals would fit with it. ^^
