Kasper Florio – Atypical Swiss | Visual Analysis

A student project by @bao.anh.b during the second year of Diploma at LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore.

Swiss Grid has long been a solemn pillar within the graphic design discipline. However, compared to itself half a century ago, the Grid system in the 21st century has evolved into, more or less flexible and dynamic. Today I look into the contemporary application of the Grid by researching both visually and textually on a Swiss graphic designer duo, Kasper Florio for a better insight into how that tool is intensively practiced based on a variety of typographic standards in the industry.

By applying the knowledge researched from the designers, the publication is designed with a coherent typographic and grid system throughout which only 2 dedicated typefaces are used – Darker Grotesque and Xanh Mono by a Vietnamese type foundry in order to provide an in-depth source of information for the readers. Images and graphic elements are carefully thought in terms of placement, size and quantity. Special organisation of information utilises cross-references and interconnected captions. All the special features in this publication like the flaps and slanted pages are intentionally planned to control the reading flow efficiently and maximise the usage of white space.
