Challenge
Create a 3D reconstruction of the submerged megalithic grave of Burtevitz (Germany), dating ca. 3400 B.C., based on archaeological plan and section drawings produced during an excavation in the 1970s.
Background
Back in 2009 I worked as an archaeologist at the University of Greifswald. Besides I attended a course on reconstructing archaeological findings in 3D. After some first attempts on stone age pottery, I wanted something bigger and more complex. So I chose the well documented megalithic grave of Burtevitz.
Realisation
The archaeological drawings were imported into Blender and aligned. The Blender workspace was subdivided into several frames showing the perspectives of the drawings. For each stone a cube was created and modified in order to fit the drawings shown in the background.
