A collection I designed for niin style jewelry in Hong Kong over the summer. We were asked to create our own concept and collection based on our view of the niin style jewelry company.

After working for Jeanine at niin style, I have opened my eyes to natures luminous qualities that have led me to create this collection, The Edge of Beauty.

Beauty surrounds us all, whether it is in front of us or hidden within. After spending time at niin style studio, I could see that nature and beauty were both important elements within many of the collections designed and produced by niin style.

When I began designing a marketable collection for niin style, I drew my inspiration from various different aspects of nature that often go unnoticed or unappreciated.

Throughout my travels this summer in Hong Kong and China, my eye was continously attracted to the rougher parts of nature, seeking beauty in the more unexpected area of nature. Such as the strong edges and angles embedded in aging trees, the abstract textures of bark and shells as well as the cool colors of the dusty fog that settles over many of the Hong Kong beaches.

I chose to combine the bold lines and angles into a striking design, applying it all throughout the collection. I used the design in interchanging patterns, as displayed in the earrings and pendant as well as in the cutout patterns incorporated in the cuff.

By using sleek angles in the pattern design, I brought out the roughness of nature in an edgy yet sensuous way. Combining the abstract natural elements with strong edges, I wanted to give a more organic yet mysterious look that not only allows a woman to feel sexy but also gives her the desire to embrace and illuminate within the darker beauty that nature holds.
