FOLDS OF COMFORT
People like students, young professionals, midldle class working people, etc habiting in smaller spaces in urban areas cannot possess different types of furniture for different uses, due to space constraints. So having a single furniture in a small space which can be used for different purposes will help to save a space and yet satisfy their need. A furniture which be used to sit, relax during day and the same can be used as a bed for two people to sleep. This means there is no need to have a separate sofa, a relaxing chair and a bed to sleep.
The design of the product shoud - The mechanism of folding / conversion from one state to another should be very simple.
- The mechanism should be broken down into segments, which will make it easier for the user to use.
- The conversion of sofa into another form for example bed, should happen without moving/ pushing/pulling
the main body of the furniture.
- The furniture shouldn’t be dependent on any other sorrounding bodies to function, it should function individually.
- It should fit in the scenario of the house.
- The design should be independent of gender, age, etc.
I designed five different concepts. After comparing all the concepts, I shortlisted a concept that fitted the bill. It was easy to lift as it was broken into segments and could be used a sofa, a relaxing lounge, and as a bed. By using light weight CHILE PINE WOOD and metal rods in this design, I lent strength to the entire structure.
The overall price of the sofa is within the reach of every common man.
