Loud Whisper - Furniture Design

Loud Whisper (2020)

The quality of our conversations has not been great with the restrictions of Covid-19. With the rules of social-distancing, we strain our voices to be heard thus losing our privacy in public. Loud Whisper strives to bring back the comfort and privacy of personal conversations in a safe manner.

The concept leverages a simple paraboloid structure from World War, that detected warplanes.
Concept Sketches & Prototypes
A video compares the effectiveness of the paraboloid dish in different scales of prototype.
Loud Whisper takes back the human touch of conversation from a distance, in the form of a furniture.
Combining acoustic physics with design, Loud Whisper is a chair that explores and rediscovers the way people interact with each other in liminal spaces during this pandemic. The parabolic dish is implemented on the backrest so that conversations can be held from distances apart.
Users are able to carry out normal conversation in the distance of 12 meters.
With Loud Whisper, we hope to bring back the comfort and privacy of your personal conversation. Perhaps this can be how safe and personal conversation should be like from now on.
