Project Brief: Educational institutions are the store houses of knowledge development. An institution is a space where evolution and evaluation of ideas takes place. They play a profound role in giving direction and providing a platform for learning in a society. From the schools of Plato and Aristotle to the Medieval Monasteries; the Madrassas in the Golden Age of Islam and the Art Academics of the Post-Enlightenment Europe, the very, root of an educational institution can be traces as far back as man's earliest quest for knowledge- the most fundamental urge to comprehend, measure, influence and in some control the environment around him.
Challenges of the Project:
1. To be able to comprehend how Architecture works as a DNA for an entire built language that translates into the entire campus and its relationship to the city of Lahore.
2. Keeping in mind the historical context of the campus, the challenge is to design a building that reflects the 'spirit of the times' while simultaneously forming linkages between its genius loci and the zeitgeist reflects.
3. To look at the changing patterns of teaching pedagogies which have moved more towards learning based environments. therefore, the design should mark a profound change intended to accommodate technological advances oriented around a diverse range of student needs and as a result optimize learning.
4. As the program is multi-departmental, flexibility is an abiding design goal. So the design should contain collaborative and collective spaces which are able to expand, contract, and change as the school's curricula evolve.
