PROJECT 2 // MONOCHROMATIC ILLUSTRATION
PROJECT DESCRIPTION

For my monochromatic illustration, I chose to do a landscape and illustrate my family's backyard. It has always been one of my favorite views and so I felt it was worth illustrating. I chose to go with a dark teal for my color palette and set the time of day at night. I wanted the scene to feel peaceful and I also thought the time of day went well with a monochromatic color palette. At the base of the hill that makes up the backyard, it's not uncommon to see white tail deer resting or grazing so I also added in a buck as a reference to that and also add some more interest. The most difficult part of this project for me was adding in the texture. I watched the tutorials especially on how to use the filters to add grain but simply could not get Illustrator to do what I wanted to blend the colors together. I eventually ended up using the brush tool and clipping masks to apply the grain effect that I wanted as was demonstrated in one of the tutorials as another solution to create a grain effect. Overall, this project honestly ended up being more difficult than I had originally anticipated. It has been a while since I've attempted a landscape so it was definitely challenging getting back into that mode of illustration. I appreciated the challenge of this project though and I feel as though I've learned a lot through it by using some tools and techniques that were new to me. I will definitely be using some things I learned from this project in future illustrations!
