Oedipus, Sophocles

Mock up for a Greek tragedy poster, Oedipus. Sophocles' text is wrapped around Rodin Statues (Burghers of Calais) I photographed in Stanford, CA.
Both pictures had to be adjusted in Photoshop. The characters were cut out and both were placed in a new A4 print PSD document. Extracts of important scenes were pasted on a letter format and displaced.
This scene represents the crucial moment when Oedipus understands that not only he is the son of Creon, the man he has just killed, but that Jocasta, the woman he is in love with (and he is married to), is in fact his mother. Red is used to create a contrast with the rest and puts the accent on both protagonists. Red is, with yellow and blue, part of the tragedy primary hues. Scale helps to create depth and a visual hierarchy. It also gives a visual weight to the pain, horror and all the terrible feelings Oedipus is going through at this precise moment. A QR was created that encloses all necessary information.
