I chose a simple design by Guillaume Kurkdjian. I was inspired by his unique ideas and clean execution. His icons are simple, effective, but still stylized in a way that is different from others' work.

The idea of goals really resonated with me from the interview with Kyle Adams, so I really tried to dig deep and search for Kurkdjian's potential goals with this project. All the steps he took in making this design had a purpose.

I never considered sharing my process as a designer and creator as an important aspect of making sure a client is satisfied, but now I get why.

Something Adam's pointed out was the use of keywords to innovate and illustrate new ideas. He takes keywords specifically from the goals his clients have made with him and continues his process from there.

A large portion of that purpose are the design elements involved. For these icons specifically, I want to look at repetition, movement and balance.

Here is the full icon set, but for each element I will focus on just one section of the icons.
Repetition
The most obvious repetition is in the angle of the icons themselves. The direction they face brings a consistency to the set that also makes the icons pleasing to the eye. Even the angle of the sail on the boat goes in the same direction as the rest of the icons.

These icons would even be successful on their own.
Movement
Though these icons aren't animated, they do allude to movement. The circle on the ferry, the movement of the liquid in the glass and the umbrella opening.

I think this movement is accomplished simply through the lines used to create each icon. They draw the eye to create movement.
Balance
Kurkdjian balances out each icon by making them about the same size. by doing this, the line weight remains consistent and there is still detail included in each icon that isn't compromised.

There is also a balance in detail across all the icons.
