Galactic Wars EX Cover Art

I had the honor to participate in the amazing Galactic Wars Ex project, contributing with the cover art.

The idea was to create a dynamic piece of art mixing the 80s retro with a touch of modern videogame design.

Before creating this cover I created a video inspired on the game just for fun, and it ended being the base for the composition of the final piece.

This was made in blender, testing a pixelated feel render.

First I made a couple of composition tests in Photoshop, already thinking in the color. The idea is to show a fight between our main character and a bigger spaceship.

I used the 3D spaceship to speed up and as a guide for the final line work

I wanted the big bad guy to look scary! In the game we can see those ships having tentacles so I tried to show them as part of the design, and introduce some hexagonal shapes so it will remind more to an insect.

After the line was finished, I blocked the local colors and prepared everything to be rendered.

At first, the line was gonna be only a guide to paint the drawing but I decided to keep it, it give a look closer to 80s comic books and we really liked that!
