Beer Crate Design for Carry-in Project: Yamaguchi Nakazono-cho

The "Carry-in Project," a theatrical project conceived by the performance group "Devil's Mark," is one of their representative works in which they present a kind of "theater" in which a huge object, designed to be barely large enough to fit inside the building where it will be held, is carried into the building by human power.

The "Carry-in Project: Yamaguchi-Nakazono-cho Project" is a project in which YCAM (Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media) takes the initiative in carrying out this work, from object design to delivery.

The design of the beer case was aimed at exploring the possibilities of the carry-in project, and was designed to facilitate the assembly of the "object" used in the carry-in project.

In order to save labor in the assembly of conventional objects, which are made by a complicated process such as fixing plywood to a beer case, we devised a case shape that can be stacked in the left-right direction as well as the up-down direction. While this was a speculative design approach that was designed for an art project and never actually produced, it was designed and engineered to follow the performance of existing products with high strength and the ability to be molded in one piece.

パフォーマンス集団・悪魔のしるしが発案した演劇プロジェクト「搬入プロジェクト」は、会場となる建物内にかろうじて入る大きさ・形状に設計された巨大な物体を、人力で館内に搬入する様子を一種の「演劇」として提示するという彼らの代表的な作品のひとつです。また、「搬入プロジェクト山口・中園町計画」は、この作品をYCAM（山口情報芸術センター）が物体の設計から搬入まで主体的に実施するものです。

このビールケースのデザインは、搬入プロジェクトの可能性を探ることを目標に、搬入プロジェクトで用いられる「物体」の組み立てがしやすくなるよう設計したものです。

ビールケースにベニヤ板を固定するなど、複雑なプロセスで作られてきた従来の物体の組み立てを省力化するために、上下方向に加えて左右方向にもスタッキング可能なケースの形状を考案しました。アートプロジェクトのためにデザインし、実際に生産されることのないスペキュラティブデザイン的なアプローチでありながら、高い強度と一体成型が可能な既存製品の性能を踏襲してデザイン、設計に当たりました。
