MISSION ACCOMPLIE: FULL SYNCHRONIZATION

This very picture taken by @virgilabloh himself signifies the true essence of creatively driven intellectuals eager to speak their true. @davidelvalls (holding the white banner) who I met at this gathering, went on to translate this intimate moment into a fabric piece he called “READYMADE” ©2018. My epiphany after this moment was that, In spite of the students learning from the teacher, the teacher himself is also the student.

Virgil's IKEA collaboration finally released and I managed to get my hands on some the collection. At this moment the idea of celebrating Virgil announcement and execution came to me and because of how powerful the concept of time plays in the space of the IKEA and Virgil collaboration.
Virgil recognized the in progress effort of the special project that David and I were slowly working on, celebrating Virgil and IKEA's collaboration. This was the inspirational fuel that pushed the project.

This exhibition was phenomenally orchestrated, showcasing the timeline of @virgilabloh creative genesis. I was first introduced to Virgil’s work by my cousin @c_chula9 in Zambia who bought me a Pyrex T-shirt back in 2014, and I have been a fan ever since.
Virgil Abloh's work in it’s true essence represents a simplified but yet successful approach to the use of language in art and translating it to a global audience. Special acknowledgement goes to my brother @cynide.wav for installing most of Virgil's exhibition pieces and to @nathonruehl for capturing these moments. #figuresofspeech

The mission statement for the IKEA and @virgilabloh collaboration was “to create democratic art and design pieces that real and rich people can relate to through a unique collaborative design space made by Virgil Abloh.” As stated by Swiss curator and design critic, @hansulrichobrist, “the project started with an 80 page book and research, where Virgil goes beyond the fear of pooling knowledge and builds urgent bridges between disciplines and brings new generations to art and design.”

This custom one of one piece designed by myself and @davidelvalls is to commemorate the completion of this 2 year venture that we personally got to witness from its inception, hence the term “Mission Accomplie” which translates to Mission Accomplished. This piece further showcases the translation of a mere idea into a product that starts a dialogue.

//... [ MISSION ACCOMPLIE: FULL SYNCHRONIZATION ] Program ✅

Today, March 1st, 2020 marked the full integration of a 3 year long collaboration between @virgilabloh and @ikeatoday @highmuseumofart . Being present in both settings, from the announcement in London to the release and museum exhibition in Atlanta, has been a dual journey as both a tourist and purist. My experience in that sense of duality evoked an eagerness to learn and as well as having the knowledge to understand Virgil’s design language and intention. This entire collaboration allowed me to create a subcontext which commemorates the project, that I entitled “Mission Accomplie” which translates to Mission Accomplished. Mission Accomplie further showcases the translation and time journey of a mere idea into a product that starts a dialogue. Thank you Virgil for this journey, can’t wait for the next one. #2020BEAMS
//... [ MISSION ACCOMPLIE: Cultural Relic ] Program 🤲🏾☀️🚧

Ideas that disrupt the status quo of society's cultural and social environment, injects new ideologies and shifts perspective. @virgilabloh is one of this generations' best disruptive creatives.

Watching his journey has conditioned me to disrupt my own environments and inject my style into the design languages of other prominent creatives I look up to. In the process, creating an unconventional learning environment for myself.

The collaboration between Virgil and @ikea was one project I not only followed but personally experienced, witnessing each process, from it's announcement in London to its full circle interaction in Atlanta with both the collaboration products and Virgil himself.

In today's contemporary art world, we as the audience are creating our own unconventional museums in our personal spaces. From collecting merch pieces to music concert tickets, we tend to keep these cultural relics to symbolize the nostalgic and relevance power that they have in our own personal lives.

The "Mission Accomplie" t-shirt is my cultural relic that commemorates my experience witnessing and informally being part of the Virgil and Ikea collaboration.
