Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary

Location: Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary is located on the outskirts of Srirangapatna, about 16 Km from Mysore.

Around 170 different species of birds have been recorded from Ranganathittu. Most commonly seen birds have Painted Stork, Kingfishers, Cormorants, Darter, Herons, River Tern, Egrets, Indian Roller, Black-headed Ibis, Spoonbill, Great Stone Plover, and Spot-billed Pelicans.

The Mugger crocodile stealthily blends into the rocky terrain and basks in the afternoon sun. It is a common inhabitant of the riverine reed beds and Ranganathittu has the largest freshwater crocodile population in Karnataka.

These photos were taken by me in Jan 2021 and were clicked during the 15-minute boat tour which is the main attraction at the sanctuary. ​​​​​​​
