Limited Edition Book
The goal of this limited edition version is to present the classic And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie in a creative design no one has seen before. I wanted to add my own design style while also staying true to the classic. I designed this book inside and out using Adobe InDesign and Illustrator.
Page Layout Design
For the interior design, I used Adobe Caslon in various weights. Caslon is a classic easy to read font, which is perfect for this classic novel. To add some design flair, the chapter openings, front, and back matter titles use swash characters for capitalized letters. For chapter openings, I used small caps for the first few words.
End Sheets
On every chapter opening, there is a chapter illustration that goes along with what happens in that chapter. To create my images, I used a combination of old photographs, line art graphics, and shadow techniques to create images in Adobe Illustrator with a vintage feel. For my end sheets, I decided to use all of these illustrations and create my own paper as my own design.
Book Binding Process
I bound my book by hand. I folded each page, and placed them inside each other in order to make signatures. Then I sewed the signature together, and glued the book block to the end sheets. I drew a revolver on the cover and hand wrote the title on the spine. I cut out pieces of book board and glued the book block into the casing.
