HSBC Junior eSavers
Banking made simple for youths in Singapore

A 2 day assignment project by Stephen, 2021
Assignment Overview
Most banks in Singapore have a savings account for children and youths, propose a HSBC children/youth banking account.

Approach
I made use of 1 days to do desktop user-research, 1/2 day to wireframe, and 1/2 day to create a higher fidelity prototype.

Below is how I proposed HSDC Junior eSavers in 2 days.

UX Research Method
Due to the time limitations, deep UX research was not possible.

I went to search multiple Singaporean forums on their views of such banking accounts, and of teaching their children how to manage money in general.

The interplay between parent and child interactions was interesting to me.

Children's accounts are fun and playful with easy navigations and monitoring options from parents. Some banks were even beyond their time - offering wearables and an app for parents to track, deposit money and limit their spending.
Proposed Target Group
What if our targeted children persona could grow together with the account?
What if parents could have tighter control over the child's spending at the early stages of the child's growth before freeing it up over time?
How might this interplay with various stakeholders that are involve?
Simple Persona Growth
Little Timmy, Growing Timmy, Glow up Timmy
Various life stages of the same persona and what they might be expecting and viewing about money

Assumptions:
The younger you are, the less financially literate you are.
Parents prefer to have restrictions for their children (especially when they are young) for finance
Growth over time Sketches
I played around with what 'growth' means visually to me. I used this as the growth 'look&feel' that I can possibly base my app on. Some inspirations of gamification elements were used.
Onboarding Sketches
How might I onboard children-youth onto this app with gamification-like elements?
By this time, sketches of "HSBC-like" avatar was used multiple times and I stuck to its exploration.

How might the app "transform" over time over the ages?
How might the app "transform" over time over the ages in relation to parent's restrictions?
HSBC brand guidelines & onboarding apps analysis
Avatar Ideations
An avatar would be good to guide the user from child-teenager ages. As I was interested in the parent-child interplay, I included a 'parent' avatar to guide the child till they are of age. Avatar was inspired by HSBC logo.
Proposed Wireframes
Below are some snapshots of onboarding, sign-ups and page navigation options between parent and child app. Some features only expanded over time.
Sign-up (Parents and Children)
Sign in as a parent or child and link the accounts together.
Landing page (Children)
Front page customized for various ages of growth for users
Landing page (Parents)
Front page customized for parents restrictions
Higher Fidelity Prototype

Child's perspective
1. Child is able to navigate the 'roadmap of life' with simple personalized saving goals. Progress more as you grow to learn more.
2. Add your own goal and tag it with the amount and duration proposed to achieve it.
3. eSaver "Debit" card is given to child and topped up from parents. Have an overview on how you you save and spend
Parent's perspective
1. Monitor your children's 'roadmap of life'.
2. Set tasks for your children for them to 'earn' more savings
3. Set allowance for your child and deposit it directly into the in-app e-Saver "debit" card.
4. Unlock further 'spend' features when child is of age, or has reached a certain level of financial literacy.
