Welcome to the Ideal is an investigative research into the nature of “ideal” based on the story of Venets high-rise hotel, built in Ulyanovsk in 1970. In 2017, with the support of the VAC Foundation, the book was published in English and sold in a small print run of 500 copies at the independent bookstores in Europe. For the past six months, Gluschenkoizdat has been working on the Russian-language edition of the book, and now we are finally ready to announce the pre-order. Venets is fully done and is now in the second stage of proofreading. The book was transformed into a large newspaper format (400 × 578 mm, 36 pages), we've been able to preserve most of the photographs, all texts and documents, and even added some. We invite you to participate in the crowdfunding campaign of this new edition of Venets and to pre-order the novel-newspaper (from 390 rubles) on the Planeta.ru website.

It's Nice That — It was while working on a project in a small town on the Volga River, Ulyanovsk that photographer, designer and publisher, Kirill Gluschenko first stayed in the 22-storey hotel – the Venets. “Such large hotels are a rarity in Russia,” he explains, “I took the most inexpensive room, which also turned out to be the oldest with its partially preserved Soviet interior. The view from the 20th floor was impressive and I immediately fell in love with the hotel.”
GLUSCHENKOIZDAT
An art project by Kirill Gluschenko (b. Kaliningrad, 1983), in which the artist explores the themes of everyday life, memory, media and politics through the prism of a fictional publishing house and working with archives. Gluschenko's exhibitions have received national and European awards: the State Prize “Innovation” (2017) for the exhibition “The Look of Our Everyday Life is Beautiful”, the Marion Ermer Preis (2018) and a nomination for the “Kandinsky Prize” (2019) for the “Venets” project. The book “Venets. Welcome to the Ideal“ won the Grand Prix at the Zhar-Kniga Book competition (2019), the Deutsche Architekturmuseum's “Best Books of the Year” (2018) and received an honorable mention at the Stiftung Buchkunst competition in Frankfurt “The Most Beautiful Books from Around the world" (2020).
In 2020, Gluschenko received his master's degree from the Leipzig Academy of Fine Arts (HGB Leipzig) and took part in the 2nd Triennial of Russian Contemporary Art at the Garage Museum with the work “Moscow Lights” — an installation and a short film.

„Добро пожаловать в идеальное“ — это книга-расследование о природе идеального на примере высотной гостиницы „Венец“, построенной в Ульяновске в 1970 году к 100-летию Владимира Ленина. Какой ценой дается „идеальное“ и какими методами формируется его образ? Ответы мы ищем в многослойном полотне из воспоминаний современников, официальной хроники „ударной стройки“ в местных газетах и секретных документов из партийного архива.
В 2017 году при поддержке фонда VAC книга была издана на английском языке и разошлась небольшим тиражом (500 экз.) по независимым книжным магазинам Европы. Последние шесть месяцев в редакции „Глущенкоиздата“ велась работа над русскоязычной версией книги и сейчас мы наконец готовы объявить о предзаказе нового издания. „Венец“ полностью сверстан и находится на втором этапе корректуры.
Книга трансформировалась в большой газетный формат (400×578 мм, 36 стр.), при этом мы сохранили большинство фотографий, все тексты и документы, а кое-что даже дополнили.
