Black Lives Matter
Artist Statement
Tailar Jackson is a senior art major with a concentration in computer graphics who attends Winston-Salem State University. She was born and raised in Michigan. Jackson is extremely inspired by the black lives matter movement. The movement is dedicated to fighting racism and police brutality against black people. Black Lives Matter is the title of Jackson’s exhibit. She wanted to use her creative skills to speak about the situation. She really enjoys creating graphics and using the software Procreate. Jackson wanted to express her tribute to those who have fallen short to racism and police brutality. Jackson’s main concept is to show awareness that these acts still continue through men and women in the black race. She doesn’t want people to forget the names and faces of these beautiful people. They were all innocent people and didn’t deserve to be treated that way. The names on these fourteen posters are Sandra Bland, Breonna Taylor, Trayvon Martin, George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Tamir Rice, Philando Castile, Oscar Grant, Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Daunte Wright, Ma’khia Bryant, Atatiana Jefferson, and Rayshard Brooks. Jackson wants people to look at her artwork and know what black people go through on the daily basis. Her goal is to continue to bring awareness of racism and police brutality by spreading the message about what’s happening to black people on several social media platforms.
