Brazilian Folklore

ABOUT:  This series started with a drawing challenge called Folktale Week, and I chose the Brazilian folklore as theme. After it was over, I imagined how it would be in a digital series format and this was the result.

Legend says the Cuca is an alligator-faced witch who only sleeps one night in seven years and when she completes 1000 years, an egg appears in front of the cave where she leaves. The oldest Cuca must throw a spell and transforms herself into a bird, so the new one, inside the egg, can take her place.
Because she hardly sleeps, the Cuca's "job" is to haunt and kidnap children who doesn't want to sleep either.

Legend says the Famaleal is born from a ritual someone does with the devil. After it, the person has to find a chicken egg where the devil put the Famaleal, and which will only hatch under the person's arm. The Famaleal is a little creature with duck feet that will bring wealth to its owner, but in return this one needs to feed it blood every Friday night. Its owner is also suppose to put it in a bottle so it won't scape, and some variations of the legend say when the owner dies the devil comes for his soul as payment for the ritual. That's why the Famaleal is also known as the little devil in the bottle.

Legend says Iara was an indigenous of great skills, so that so,her two brothers ploted to kill her because they envied her. During their fight though, Iara killed them instead for she also knew combat skills. However, her father was the tribe's  shaman and was so angry with her that commanded her to be thrown into the river. The fishes  though, saved Iara's life, and since then she lives in the Amazon rivers as half fish half woman,
courtshipping men so to drag them to the bottom of the river and end their lives.

Legend says the Saci protects the forests, playing tricks on passersby, and knotting the tails of their horses. His magical powers reside in his cap, which allows him to move in whirlwinds, since he only has one leg. He likes to smok pipe, and legend says he can be as playful and mischievous as he's clever.
