Keep Your Hands off Eizouken!
"Keep your hands off Eizouken!" is a show about a bunch of kids making animation in their school club. The imaginative and loose art style along with the chaotic urban setting inspired me, as someone who used to believe that minimalism was always best, to appreciate the beauty and charm in disorder and excess. My mood board focused mostly on the setting, which existed in the show in both reality and an exaggerated version within the animation they created. I latched onto the sprawling urban backdrop and its chaotic architecture, as well as the towns interwoven elements of water.
I ended up simplifying the design for 3D printing as I was concerned over the resolution of the printer and decided a simpler design would be better than a failed one. I experimented with a more complicated design from my iteration but quickly discovered that it wouldn't work for 3D printing.

Conclusion

I think the final design did well in capturing both the urban focus as well as the water element, however it lacked chaos in my opinion. The idea of chaos sort of conflicts with the allocated build volume and 3D printing limitations and so I probably should have chosen something else to focus on. I like that the piece ended up quite original but it could have perhaps been better to make it more identifiable as a queen chess piece. I think that overall it was a success but in future I want to keep the final design and the given process in mind while deciding on inspiration. I do however think that my final chess piece does the show it's based on justice.
