WOLO Hotel is strategically located at the heart of Kuala Lumpur’s most bustling and creative districts – Jalan Bukit Bintang. To stand out from the saturated crowd of traditional upscale hotels, the new owners of WOLO wanted a laser-focused brand personality that caters to the modern and fashion-forward segment of contemporary travellers. For our first step, we took inspiration from the energy and culture of Kuala Lumpur’s diverse and urban neighbourhoods, and transformed them into the concept of “the modern alchemist”. This archetype depicts a traveller that is bold, curious, creative, and ever-ready to explore the city on their own terms. Within the hotel premises, design elements were created and curated to engage with all five senses of each traveller. This includes the use of tactile artwork by local artists, selected playlists and amenity kits for guests, and welcome cocktails infused with local flavours, amongst others. Together, we did all these while keeping in mind what is true to Malaysian culture and identity. Swaths and splashes of red, blue, and yellow permeate the hotel interior and guest rooms – a harking to Malaysia’s national flag and the inspiration to WOLO’s visual language.
