Malaysia is a melting pot of cultures and cuisines, on top of being one of the leading halal destinations in the world. Mohd Chan Restaurants offer a fusion fare of Chinese-Muslim dishes, devoted to Cantonese cooking styles, and infused with Southeast Asian tastes and techniques. When we met the restaurant founders, we recognised a need to refine and establish its brand positioning amongst the myriad of competition within the Chinese-Muslim segment. To establish a brand that speaks true to its core, it was important for Mohd Chan to reflect the essence of muhibbah and silaturarahim – a local phrase which loosely translates to family and hospitality. As a result, our visual language is gentle, refined, and inviting, one that is rooted in authenticity, Islamic values, and Malaysian hospitality. We also created a flexible brand typology that would accommodate future business expansion. Working alongside clients on a research-driven and collaborative process, we created a brand identity that is both modern and modest, and most importantly, one that has strengthened Mohd Chan as a leading Chinese-Muslim food category in the market.
