#VoteYourFuture

VISUAL RESEARCH

The #VoteYourFuture campaign is about tackling the huge numbers of voter apathy especially young people(youths).
This campaign is aimed at informing the young people on the importance of voting and the significance of that one vote which misses out on election day.

According to the UNFP report, Zambia has over 4.8 Million youths(36.7% of Zambia’s Population) this is the largest population in the countries history.
This number shows the significance of the youths voice in the democracy and/or vote process of Zambia.

The Electoral commission of Zambia in the 2016 General elections had a total number of 6,698,372 Registered voters and Registered youths from 18-34 years old were 3,440,071 and only 3,695,710 voted showing that only 55% of the total registered voters voted and the 45% registered voted did not cast there votes.



AUDIENCE


This campaign is aimed at raising awareness especially to the young people who are the majority in the Zambian voting population. 

This will be done by creating a youth centered campaign with the #VoteYourFuture as the main slogan to show young people that they have the power to change government and their voice to is loud and can be heard.



I did a brief survey as to why most youths  decide to shy away from such an important issue;
Most of them gave reason to say the lines/ques are too long and they can’t afford to wait that many hours to register to vote or to vote.
The failure by leaders of political parties to fully articulate their policies and how they will govern.
Lack of information and sensitization was as well one the key factors as to why many of them choose to stay away.
Them not voting makes little or no difference to who will govern the country.
Others based their argument on Religion, that God has already chosen the next leaders, so them not voting won’t change anything.




This project is personal; Having struggled with registering to vote and later on voting, I know how it feels to not have confidence in the electoral process and I want to help change the Narrative through my designs and Hashtag campaign.

The platform for the campaign is FACEBOOK, with over 2,494,000 Zambian Facebook users, Mainly youths who are over 60%.
The numbers make it easier for the campaign to reach more youths.

The captions will be accompanied by photographs which depict young people with voters cards and a warm tone, to show and make the audience feel comfortable, happy and relate to the campaign.


ZAMBIAN FLAG

The Campaign colors take up mostly the Zambian Flag colors which are; Green, Red, Orange and Black, with a touch of white.

The designs have a green filter to remind the audience that is Zambia first. The colors of #VoteYourFuture is mixture of orange, black and red.

The design takes up a minimalistic approach to it.
“Less is more.”

The typeface used is Sans-Serif
