Don’t Do This While Cleaning Your Home Tiles

Though cleaning your home tiles seems tedious, it’s a job that is relatively easy to do and requires things that are readily available at the home. With the right amount of effort and following some simple instructions, it is possible to clean cheap wall tiles and kitchen backsplash without destroying them.

But if you are not careful, you might end up being discouraged from cleaning them again. We will explore some possible mistakes that can ruin your floors and leave them in a worse state than before, and some floor cleaning methods that are not recommended.

What Not to Do While Cleaning Your Tiles

Certain cleaning products should not be mixed, and some should never be applied to tiles. Here I have listed a few things you should never do for different types of tiles.

Don’t Use Harsh Soaps

Do not make the mistake of using harsh detergents, as all these will do is leave behind a film of grease long after you have scrubbed hard to remove them.

Instead, opt for non-abrasive products and solutions that are meant for tile cleaning. The floor should be washed with water and a combination of soap or detergent to clean the dirt. But be extremely careful while washing floors. Do not use cutting soaps as it may reduce the shine of your tiles.

Don’t Use Acidic or Alkaline Solutions

The way to clean your marble floors is to use neutral solutions. Using acidic or any kind of harsh solution will ruin the look and feel of your gorgeous marble flooring and if not taken care of. Acidic solutions may change the appearance of the tiles, and cause damage to the grout. Acidic, chlorinated, or alkaline solutions can damage the surface of polished tiles and grout line.

Also, acidic products will weaken the minerals in grout's binding, causing discoloration and cracks. First, check if your cleaning product is suitable for application on a polished tile surface (check the label). Then take a bucket of hot water with washing liquid, and soak and apply a nylon brush to the area that needs to be cleaned. Rinse off completely and continue with vacuum cleaning, finally drying with a soft towel.

Never Bleach

Tough-to-get stains on tile floors can be frustrating. Many folks resort to bleach, but this is unnecessary. You do not have to use bleach on your tile floors!  Read about what types of cleaners you can use on your tile floors instead of bleach, and when you need to call a professional cleaner in to assist. The fastest way to clean your grout without scrubbing out the grout colour is to use a Tile & Grout Cleaner.

Don’t Use Hard Steel Brushes

The choice of cleaning material is crucial so don’t use steel sponges or harsh steel brushes to clean tiles. A powerful vacuum cleaner can help to break up dirt and grime. Soft nylon scourers are also an easy way to remove tough stains from tiles.

Bottom Line

We come across several tutorials on how to clean the tiles but in most of those cases, we find that people are advising you to use the solutions that are not meant for your home tiles.
Whether it's grout or tiles, each one has its own specific requirements when it comes to maintenance and cleaning. Cleaning your home tiles is a task better left for professional tile cleaners made by experts rather than taking the risk with a chemical cleaning agent that can potentially ruin your tiles.
