Title: ANTIGRAPHI , METAGRAPHI, METAPHRASI
The greek words ANTIGRAPHI , METAGRAPHI, METAPHRASI in the title mean copy, transcription and translation.
These three words together compose a biology term describing the flow of genetic information .
Transcription, according to Merriam Webster, is the act of making a written, printed, or typed copy of words that have been spoken.
The word has its origins in the Latin verb for “to transcribe” (transcribere: trans (over) + scribere (write). Translation is the act of changing one language into another language.
For this project, I bound the transparent papers, found in between the pages of a 1840 book about Pompei, that used to protect the coloured lithographs from sinking.
The traces of the images stained these papers creating a book within the book.
While the new image is born out of the old -the coloured one- it has a new form and sensation, it creates a new piece of art.
The book is bound using the crossed structured technique of sewing the sections directly on the cover.
A 300 gr Hahnemühle watercolour paper is used for the cover and the title is debossed .
The endpapers are takeo pachica white 151 gr paper and become transparent with heat where an image of the book is copied and hot blocked.
