Haward Horological Logo Redesign

Modernising with a traditional feel
Not only am I fascinated by my friends work, but Jack also inspired my second font in my first university module. Jack approached me in the spring of 2020 with the take of turning his ideas into a new logo for his family ran company.

Haward Horological Ltd has roots in clock making going back 200 years and Jack is now the 6th generation
of clock makers in his family. His grandfather Peter, left Thwaites and Reed after 27 years where he was their
Technical Director, to form his own company, Haward Horological Ltd in 1975.
Since then the company has been ran by Ian Haward and his son (and my friend) Jack.

Jack wanted to include a traditional and intricate image of a church clock with his company's name running around it. This was a new approach to the company's previous scripted wordmark.

I first off wanted to simplify the font and make it more legible. Transforming and warping the text is likely to make it more complicated, furthermore, a customer may over look a complex logo as its to busy.
Essentially the circle represents the clock however looking deeper a circle represents a unity/partnership/ family as well as trust. A neat hand lettered font, creates the sense of familiarity, however to me, also tradition and wisdom/knowledge.

The trickiest part was making the hands of the clock read an accurate time whilst working with the name.

Over all I am happy with the logo and the company I work for has produced his workwear and can honestly say it looks great.
