Dorothea Nicolai, who usually outfits the Salzburg and Bayreuth festivals, plays here in the costumes with historical elements, steampunk and the "used look". The gorgeous optics and director of Donat's clever personal direction, peppered with dance numbers, puppet shows, acrobatics and fencing scenes give the bloody events an outrageous lightness.
