Opto Sunguard - Maintain indoor thermal comfort

Research Question
How do we control power wastage and maintain a comfortable indoor environment?

Introduction
Ensuring indoor thermal comfort is an all-year-round challenge. In an uninsulated
house 30 percent heat gain and loss is through windows. By improving locally
manufactured window blinds to create a thermal absorption buffer using Bamboo
and Phase Change Materials (PCMS) we can sustainably shade our houses and cut
down energy costs.

Problem statement
Uncomfortable indoor temperatures due to lack of adaptive products and energy
losses in space and through window

Problem Definition
• Lack of weather appropriate buildings,
• Low standards of thermal comfort,
• Heat loss and gain through windows,
• Ineffective window shuttering products,
• Affordability
• Use of polluting fossil fuels,
• Decreasing use of traditional and local solutions
• Unnecessarily high running costs of appliances,
• Increased running time of HVAC products,
• Poor insulation,
• Poor working conditions,
• Lowered productivity,
