Landmarks of Regionals
Web Texture Background

In early 2021, Miami University launched their web redesign. They showcased the drafted homepage to our Regionals Office of Communications and Marketing in the early test stages circa November 2020. I was blown away by the new "texture" introduced of Oxford campus and landmarks (see below).
However, Miami University Regionals is not one college town – it consists of two commuter campuses located in Hamilton and Middletown, a learning center located in West Chester, and our E-Campus. How was I going to convey three campuses and an E-Campus system into one illustrative graphic?

I chose three recognizable symbols of Miami University Regionals locations: the Hamilton Campus concrete sculptures, the Middletown Campus glass and metal sculpture, and the Voice of America Learning Center's cupola.
Photography provided by Miami University's Scott Kissel.
Using the pen tool in illustrator, I was able to use these images as reference to create highly-detailed, line-art illustrations of these three landmarks. Reducing the opacity of the lines in areas helped represent where pipes were obscured by frosted glass. Not a single pane of glass or concrete divot was missed in creating these illustrations.
These duotone illustrations were utilized on the Miami University Regionals homepage and in some print applications.
