Gyerekkoromban sokat játszottunk nagymamámmal a magyar kártyával, ezért eljátszottam a gondolattal, hogy milyen lenne modern ábrázolással elkészíteni a játék lapjait. Fő inspirációm a történelemből ered: a kártya készülésekor az osztrák cenzúra nem engedte, hogy magyar szabadságharcosokat ábrázoljanak a grafikák, ezért úgy gondoltam, hogy most megtisztelném a múlt hőseit azzal, hogy őket illusztrálom a játékon.
A magyar kártya négy különböző színből áll: szív, levél, makk és tök. Mindegyik színhez egy-egy magyar szabadságharcot társítottam, melyek mindegyike fontos része történelemünknek. Így lett a „makk” a Rákóczi-szabadságharc, a „szív” az 1848– 49-es forradalom és szabadságharc, a „levél” az Őszirózsás forradalom, a „tök” pedig az 1956-os forradalom megtestesítője.
Mindegyik szín 8 lapot tartalmaz: „ász” (évszak), „számok” (VII, VIII, IX, X), „alsó”, „felső”, „király”. A szabadságharcosokat rangjuknak megfelelően osztottam fel a karakterlapokon, a számokon lévő ikonokat modernizáltam, az évszakokat jelölő lapokat pedig a színek ikonjaira cseréltem az adott szabadságharc dátumának jelölésével.
Mivel eredeti célom a kártyák modernizálása volt, ezért minimalista, geometrikus vonalakkal rajzoltam meg a grafikákat. Igyekeztem a színeknél megőrizni a formák eredetiségét, a karaktereknél pedig felhasználni a szereplők jellegzetes vonásait és azokat beépíteni az ábrázolásba. A tervezés során szerettem volna megtartani egy középutat a hagyományos és a modern világ között, így bizonyos elemeket megtartottam (pl. színek elhelyezése a lapon), míg másokat átalakítottam (pl. „ász”-ok ábrázolása).
A kivitelezés során különleges külsőt is szerettem volna a kártyáknak adni, így döntöttem a fekete alapon fém színek alkalmazása mellett. Mindegyik színhez a hozzá illő fémszínt társítottam: a „makk” az ezüst, a „tök” az arany, a „szív” a bronz, míg a” levél” a metál zöld színt kapta.
A paklik mellé készítettem egy kiadványt is, mely bemutatja a kártyák szereplőit, a történelmi hátteret és a jelentősebb eseményeket. Így játék közben megemlékezhetnek a játékosok történelmünk kiválóságairól is.
When I was a child my grandmother and I used to play Hungarian cards. Therefore I got inspired to make a modern representation of this game. My main inspiration comes from the Hungarian history; when the card was made Austrian censorship did not allow any Hungarian freedom fighters to be depicted in graphics so thought I would honour the heroes of the past by illustrating them on these cards.
The Hungarian deck consists of 32 cards divided into four suits: acorns, hearts, leaves, and bells. I have associated each suit with a Hungarian war of independence because they are all important in our history. Thus, the acorn has become the embodiment of the Rákóczi Freedom Fight, the heart the Hungarian Revolution and War of Independence of 1848-49, the leaf has become the symbol of the Aster Revolution, and the bell represents the Hungarian Revolution of 1956.
Each suit contains 8 cards: numbers (VII, VIII, IX, X), under and upper knaves, kings, and aces. I have classified the freedom fighters according to their ranks on the given cards, I have modernized the icons on the numbers, and I have changed the cards originally representing the 4 seasons to the icons of suits marking the date of the given war of independence.
I have drawn the graphics with minimalist geometric lines while I have tried to preserve the original forms of the suits while adapting the characteristic features of the warriors in the illustrations. During the design my aim was to keep balance between the traditional and the modern world so I have decided to preserve certain elements (e.g., placing colours on the board) while transforming others (e.g., depicting aces).
During the implementation due to the special nature of the theme I also aimed to establish a special appearance for the cards therefore I have used metallic colours on a black background. Each colour of the cards has been associated with a corresponding metallic colour: the acorn with silver, the bell with gold, the heart with bronze, and the leaf with metallic green.
In addition to the decks, I have also created a publication that briefly introduces the characters of the cards, the historical background, and the major events of these freedom fights. It lets us remember the excellence of our history while playing.
