Ronin Island is set in 19th century Asia on a secret island where survivors and refugees from Japan, Korea, and China try to build a new community after mysterious attack completely destroys their native land.
Ronin Island is a 12-issue series published in 3 volumes as a collection. I designed each volume following the same formula, changing only a complimentary color and line art elements. It created visual consistency and matched the symbolism of unity of 3 different nations. In order to add depth to the dark back covers and emphasize complimentary colors without overpowering them I used blind spot gloss. It also makes the book look more modern even while using the rough paper textures.

To match the books setting, I heavily used old paper texture, kanji version of the logo, and a colorful line art from the series. Center aligned text and images, and almost transparent kanji made every design page look like ancient scrolls.
