This was the first project done for my sophomore illustration class. The prompt was to pick a slip of paper out of a fishbowl, each slip having a word written on it, and then create an illustration based on the word. The word I got was "Adventure", which was pretty broad word. I toyed with about 20 different thumbnails to nail down a concept. I went through spelunking, boarding the raft at the river styx, mice exploring some walls, but I ultimately chose the most dynamic thumbnail (below). I wanted the scene to be action packed, inspired by how Kratos from God of War would jump onto a large monster. I started with a sketch, inked it with micron pens, and colored with watercolor.
