Essonness Typeface Poster

Typography Poster
Into
In my typography class at BYU-I, I was assigned to create a poster for a typeface. It had requirements such as being 16 by 20 inches, choosing a typeface from our class set, using at least three colors, and including information on the typeface. Using the design process, I went through steps to come up with this final poster for the typeface "Essonnes" that was published in 2015.

Layout
For the design and layout of my poster, I decided to take advantage of the double "s" and "n" by stacking the word on top of itself. I chose to use a 6 column grid to layout the letters in the title. Then, following the same pattern and alignment, I had all my other text follow its lead in a downward staircase.

Color Choices
My final poster includes a monochromatic color scheme with corals and reds. I chose monochromatic after trying multiple other color theories. I found this to look the most unified and easy to read with the diverse shades and values, unlike some of my other drafts. Essonnes is a newer typeface based on an older one. For this reason I wanted to keep the poster alive with color, yet simple.

Conclusion
My final poster took trial and error. I came a long way from the first three digital drafts I made. Using critique from my peers, a designer, and my professor, I was able to refine my ideas and make them better. Some of the last touches I did were increasing spacing to help legibility and consistency.
