Women's History Month
In thought of Women's History Month, for the longest time, I have wanted to make a poster honoring the month in which we celebrate the accomplishments of many women in history and today. I had many ideas of what I wanted my poster to look like and after so many trials and research, I thought of modernizing the Suffrage Buttons a bit by adding slogans that are used more often today. Many of the button slogans used in the Suffrage movement had a story and as I looked into the slogans used today, they also have a story too. For example a new slogan seen in most recent years in protest/marches is, #Me Too!. The story behind this slogan started with one women using #metoo on social media to empower women to speak up about sexual harassment/violence and overnight, many people joined in with her to speak up about their own experiences and became what is now known as, The Me Too! movement. Another most recent slogan is, My Body My Choice, most heard of recently due to the recent abortion ban in some states.
To highlight some of the slogans used today, I picked out nine slogans and illustrated them on Adobe Illustrator. Yes, the are all an illustration, not a photograph, I made them look real by adding the light highlights/shadows. I kept the layout of some old suffrage buttons to honor the style of when it all started and in some of the more modern slogans I remade the layout of the button. The slogans are just to show how they have progressed in time.
