Environmentalism Poster 2021

"Playing with Type #1: Layers and Masks" project.
For this assignment I decided to bring attention to the filth that ends up on our beautiful beaches and in our oceans. The idea started with researching images of plastic in our oceans. Many heartbreaking images of wildlife entangled in plastic waste came up. Originally I was going to embed those images into a text bringing awareness to the matter. The more I thought about the audience I want this message to reach, I realized I wanted the image embedded to resemble something more likely to be seen on an everyday basis. I found an image of a beautiful beach with piled up waste ruining a breathtaking sight.
I brain stormed a few different phrases for my poster, the first was "This poster can trash talk better than you." I had images of litter and garbage, the more I played with words the better the message sounded. I finally came up with, "Nothing more devastating to the eco than trash talk."
For the font and overall tones of the poster I wanted to bring it back to the 1970s, when the first Earth Day was observed (April 22,1970). I played with different drop shadow colors and layers, however, I decided less was more.
When people look at this poster, I want them to see that they have the power to make change. Simple actions like cleaning up your trash, and holding others accountable to do the same can really improve our planet. If we want to enjoy the beautiful sights our world has to offer, then we have to take care of it.
