Development of Special Interest Publications in the analog and digital environment during the winter semester of 2020/21.
In this seminar, self-initiated publishing was dealt with in teams of two. What is important, what should be told? Whether bookazine, print or online magazine – the task was to develop a special interest publication in a small print run, in which a topic deemed relevant is published.

The content was extensively researched, the image plane was created by ourselves, all processes were allowed and experimentation was encouraged to expand the
illustrative space. As a result, the fields of illustration, editorial design and typography were combined. Digital features were also added to the publications.
We (Erma Franca: @tyxem on IG and Hannah Stollenwerk @hannah_stollenwerk on IG) collaborated on a publication about women in hiphop. The goal of our project was to highlight and illustrate the role of women in hiphop and how they have influenced this genre.
In addition we opted for a pure two-tone design. This allowed us to harmonize Erma’s two-dimensional illustration style with bold, large forms and Hannah's spontaneous,
sketch-like style particularly well and even mix them in some illustrations! As a result we worked with a system of pairs: two illustration styles, two colors, two layouts, two
posters, and two postcards. With the use of the app “Artivive” the posters/postcards can be scanned and the animations pop up.
In addition to the seminar, weekly online lectures were held by publishers and designers from independent publishing houses and magazine stores for deeper insights into
the self-publishing sector.
