Kirsten Goss ABODE
I was fortunate to start working for Kirsten Goss at the time where the company was developing a sub-brand called Kirsten Goss ABODE in 2019. The brand includes cutlery, candles, greeting cards, and soaps and lotions. When I first started at Kirsten Goss, I was the junior graphic designer so was able to participate in building the brand with the KG team.
LOGO
I aided in developing the brand's logo. The logo is significant as the outer shape, known as the "Vespa", is transcribed from the jewellery brand as there are a few pieces called the "Vespa". Many of the shapes that are used in the ABODE brand are originally from the jewellery.
PACKAGING
The packaging for ABODE had to be sharp and edgy but clean. The packaging ranges from tissue paper, cutlery boxes, carrier bags and candle boxes.
The carrier bag is super luxe and simple. It is a white paper carrier bag that has the ABODE logo based in the middle of the bag with black canvas handles.
The cutlery boxes are my favourite part. They took quite some time to perfect, but the classic KG patterns cover the boxes and come in two sizes. The smaller size is white and is for the espresso spoons, sugar spoons, pâté knives, condiment spoons and pickle forks. The large black box is for the servers. The cutlery is wrapped in black tissue paper with a signature KG donut sticker and placed inside a sleek cutlery box.
We also did some prototypes of different styles for the cutlery packaging. We tried tube packaging as well as coffin box packaging. Both of these styles were amazing but the current packaging felt best suited and cutting-edge. These prototypes were created on Envato Elements.
CANDLES
There are two different candles: ABODE and LAVA. The ABODE candle is a rose, geranium and jasmine soy candle that is in a glass tumbler. The glass has a clear label on it with the logo. The glass candle has two different boxes; white or black. We chose to do white and black so the consumer could choose which colour box they would prefer. The two boxes are identical, just the ying to their yangs.
The second candle we created was the LAVA candle. This candle is a lemongrass and ylang ylang soy candle inside a black ceramic tumbler. This candle has a personalised label sticker that depicts the donut shapes and logo. To open the candle, you slice the label where the lid joins the base.
SOAP & LOTION
The hand soap and lotions were a basic design, the label was printed on the glass and monochromatic with an orange and bergamot scent. We have sold out in the clear bottles and are transitioning to either an amber bottle or black matte bottle. Kirsten shared on Instagram to see what the consumers prefer between black or amber. We have created some prototypes that are shared with the public on social media.
GREETING CARDS
The greeting cards have two designs. The "wildcard" pattern and the "donut" pattern. Both of these patterns have shapes that are derived from the jewellery shapes. The donut pattern is called the SØT and the wildcard pattern is called the VIL. The greeting cards have the pattern covering the whole card and include the abode logo at the back. Both cards have blank insides.
